Biography

Caroline Dowd-Higgins joined the Maurer School of Law as director of the Office of Career and Professional Development after several years with the Indiana University College of Arts and Sciences. Formerly the associate director of the Career Development Center and the academic advisor and communications specialist for the Department of Religious Studies, she has been providing career coaching and professional development for IU students in a variety of academic disciplines since 2000.

She specializes in building professional relationships and has enticed a multitude of new employers to recruit IU students in a broad spectrum of career fields. An experienced and engaging public speaker, Dowd-Higgins also provides outreach and professional development workshops to IU students, staff, and alumni. A member of the National Speakers' Association, Caroline also speaks nationally on career development issues specializing in empowerment for women in the workplace.

An Indiana University Jacobs School of Music alumna, Dowd-Higgins returned to IU after an international career in the performing arts which makes her keenly aware of the importance of transferable skills. She is especially interested in teaching career-bound students the importance of professional poise and communication. Her book, This is Not the Career I Ordered, is about women who have experienced a transition after recharging, re-igniting, or re-inventing their careers. Her blog of the same name features savvy career advice and job transition stories. Caroline is a regular blogger for The Huffington Post , a columnist for The Chronicle newspaper in Northern Indiana, and a contributor to More Magazine online. Her writing is syndicated internationally in major media venues.

Caroline hosts a weekly national CBS Radio show, Career Coach Caroline, focusing on career and professional development topics. She also has a Public Television special in production about career reinvention for women that will air in 2013 and a second book in the works called Designing Your Career Destiny.
