Bloomington Innovation Conference sets Feb. 24 deadline for abstracts from IU researchers

Jan. 24, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Johnson Center for Innovation and Translational Research has set a Feb. 24 deadline for researchers at Indiana University Bloomington and interested industry researchers to submit abstracts for the third annual Bloomington Innovation Conference.

Keith Davis, director of the Johnson Center for Innovation and Translational Research, said the first two conferences attracted quality speakers from industry and the university.

"One of the major goals of the conference is to foster industry-academic collaborations in Bloomington, and the speakers from Cook Biotech, Eli Lilly and Assembly Biosciences provided tremendous insight into the untapped potential for IUB-industry partnerships," Davis said. "We also are excited to highlight the exceptional work of researchers who received funding through JCITR's Translational Research Pilot Grant Program. Since the program launched two years ago, the center has funded more than $311,000 to 11 Bloomington-based researchers and their teams."

Researchers across all academic disciplines are invited to submit abstracts, which may describe recently completed work or work in progress. Submission requirements are:

  • The abstract must be no more than 500 words.
  • The submission must include the researcher's name, university affiliation, email address and phone number.
  • The abstract must be submitted through the conference's website.
  • The abstract must also be sent in PDF format to JCITR@indiana.edu.
  • The submission may include a draft of the poster, either in portrait or landscape format, no larger than 36 inches by 46 inches.

Questions about the submission process can be directed to JCITR@indiana.edu or 812-855-3133.

Authors will be notified by March 17 if their abstracts have been accepted to be displayed. Authors whose abstracts are chosen are responsible for costs associated with the preparation and presentation of the abstract and poster. They must attend the April 6 conference, which will be held in the Frangipani Room, Indiana Memorial Union, Biddle Hotel and Conference Center, 900 E. Seventh St., Bloomington.

Tentatively scheduled conference speakers include:

  • Nick Nikolaides, founder and president, N Squared Consulting Group LLC, and entrepreneur-in-residence, University of Cincinnati.
  • IU innovators who received JCITR Translational Research Pilot Grant Program funding: Hannah Block, Amar Flood, Amit Hagar, Richard Hardy, Jorge José, Cheng Kao, David Landy, Filippo Menczer, Kylie Peppler, Thomas Sterling and Michael Wade.
  • Oscar Moralez, founder and managing director, VisionTech Partners.
  • Lee Arnold, entrepreneur-in-residence, Johnson Center for Innovation and Translational Research.
