Scholars, practitioners to consider state-building in Afghanistan, Iraq

Top scholars on Afghanistan and Iraq will meet on the Indiana University Bloomington campus Friday and Saturday (Nov. 13-14) for one of the first collaborative conferences on state-building in both nations. "State-Building in the Contemporary Islamic World: U.S. Intervention in Iraq and Afghanistan" is being presented by the Indiana Democracy Consortium. Former NRA president will speak Tuesday at IU Maurer School of Law

Sandra "Sandy" Froman, a former two-term president of the National Rifle Association, will visit the Indiana University Maurer School of Law on Tuesday (Nov. 3) to discuss the recent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to review McDonald v. Law School to be named in honor of alumnus and benefactor Michael S. Maurer

Hundreds of university leaders, students, and alumni are expected to be on hand Friday (Sept. 25) for the official naming of the Indiana University Michael Maurer School of Law. The ceremony will coincide with the Law School's second annual Alumni Summit and celebrate a $35 million gift from Michael and Janie Maurer the Law School received last December.   Full Story »

IU Maurer School of Law launches Center on the Global Legal Profession

Indiana University Maurer School of Law Dean Lauren Robel announced the launch of the school's new Center on the Global Legal Profession. Class of 2009 honored at Commencement

Speaking to the inaugural graduating class of the school that now bears his name, Michael Maurer encouraged law students to honor the profession, and to find ways to give back to those places and people who made them who they are. The IU Maurer School of Law honored the class of 2009 Saturday, conferring 194 JDs, 23 LLMs, and 16 SJDs to students at the IU Auditorium.   Full Story »

The Indiana University Maurer School of Law recognized some of its finest teachers on April 20, during the School's annual Teaching Awards ceremony. David Williams, the John S. Competitors envision law firms of the future

The law firm of the future will have an increased focus on workplace culture and a target client base of small- and mid-sized businesses, according to the winning team at FutureFirm 1.0. The two-day competition, which concluded Sunday at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, charged participants with creating a business model for a fictional law firm that would not only survive the current economic downturn, but thrive 20 years into the future.   Full Story »

Critical Tax Conference unites tax scholars for productive two-day event

More than 25 tax scholars from law schools around the world convened earlier this month at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law for the 2009 Critical Tax Conference. Joshua Odintz, tax counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, delivered the conference's keynote address. His speech, "Infinite Jest: Tax Stimulus Bills," drew a large audience of faculty and students.

Alumni honored by induction into ALAF

Five alumni from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law were inducted Friday (April 17) into the School's Academy of Law Alumni Fellows. Two other alumni were awarded President's Medals from the IU Foundation. Law students revive Ambulance Chase

Proving that lawyers really do have a sense of humor, students from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law will bring back the Ambulance Chase 5k on Saturday, April 18. Runners will wind through the Bloomington campus on the 3.1-mile course. Race organizers said that an actual ambulance may be used to lead the participants through the course.   Full Story »
