FTC commissioner to speak on agency’s commitment to privacy

One of the four current commissioners of the Federal Trade Commission will present a public lecture this week at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law. Commissioner Julie Brill will speak on "The FTC and its Commitment to Consumer Privacy" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, in Room 213 of the law school.   Full Story »

In tribute to Myles Brand, CLEAR fellow will lecture on end-of-life care

George P. Smith II, a visiting fellow at Indiana University's Center for Law, Ethics, and Applied Research in Health Information, will deliver the center's first public lecture in tribute to his late friend, former IU President Myles N. Brand. The lecture is titled "Managing End-of-Life Care: Medico-Legal, Social, Ethical, and Philosophical Challenges," and will be presented on Nov. 9 at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend, inside the Maurer School of Law's Moot Court Room.   Full Story »

CACR announces its 2011-12 Security Seminar Series

Indiana University's Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research begins its annual Security Seminar Series today (Sept. 1) at noon. "Running for more than five years, our annual speaker series includes distinguished scholars, established practitioners, and other leading voices in the field of cybersecurity," said CACR Deputy Director Von Welch. Cate: Stored Communications Act (SCA) needs revisions

In testimony before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee this morning (Sept. 23), Indiana University Maurer School of Law Distinguished Professor Fred H. Patent law conference will reflect on 'Claim Scope'

Many of the country's top intellectual property scholars and practitioners are expected to convene at the IU Maurer School of Law on Sept. 23-24 for a major conference on patent law. The conference coincides with the 20th anniversary of the publication of "On the Complex Economics of Patent Scope," a seminal work in the field of patent law by Robert P. Merges and Richard R. Indiana Supreme Court to hear arguments at the Maurer School of Law Monday

The Indiana Supreme Court will hear oral arguments at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law on Monday, Sept. 13, at noon in the Moot Court Room. The arguments are open to both the public and the media, though seating is expected to be limited. Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard described it as an opportunity for law students to see first-hand how the Supreme Court operates. "Holding an oral argument at one of our state's law schools offers the law students an up-close look at Indiana's appellate system. It is a good exercise for the students to consider the real world case and think about how they would argue or decide it."   Full Story »

Law students, alum honored for pro bono service

Indiana University's Maurer School of Law today (Sept. 8) honored two current students and a recent alumnus for their commitment and dedication to pro bono work. Alex Haugh, JD'10, third-year student Gina Venturelli, and second-year student Rachael Steller were all presented with the Access to Justice Program's Pro Bono Award during a ceremony at the law school. The award is presented to the student from each class who performed the most pro bono work during the course of the year.   Full Story »
